Jolly LLB review

Jolly LLB is a movie inspired by the 1999 hit-and-run case of Sanjeev Nanda (In the film known as Rahul Dewan).
It is a very clean cut and well executed film. Whether it's the subject of the movie or the acting, this film deserves praise in its story and especially the story telling. It is labelled a comedy, but to be honest, the story will take you in and not let you go.

The film revolves around this "hit-and-run" case while also exploring other fields such as romance between Jolly (Arshad Warsi) and his love interest Sandhya (Amrita Rao)... which actually lacks slightly but that becomes insignificant as the film actually is about the "LLB" side of Jolly, which is shown very well by the director, Subhash Kapoor, who has brilliantly written the film too. His story shows conviction and he skillfully creates a theatre of this absurdity.

One disappointement in the film are the unnecessary songs, which do not do justice to the film, as they are quite ordinary, to say the least. Music director Krisna, did not impress, rather I think the film would have been better off without a typical "hindi film gaana".

Jolly starts off as a small-time lawyer in Meerut but soon moves to Delhi, chasing his dream of becoming a superstar lawyer and becomes an integral part in the high-profile hit-and-run case where he finds himself up against one of the country's biggest lawyers, Rajpal (Boman Irani).

SPOILER ALERT!

Jolly refuses to be intimidated. Instead, he finds his inner hero and proves that, even in Indian courts, there is justice. We know that the reality is far from this, which is why it is so heart-warming to see Jolly succeed on screen.
Justice Tripathi (Saurabh Shukla) is the judge for this encounter between the two sides. His character develops into.."THE BEST CHARACTER" in this film.
Saurabh Shukla is immense! Like seriously...I do not have words to describe his outstanding representation of a judge that demands justice in his court.

The film definitely has comedy in its soul as reality is quite absurd, but also funny at the same time. While bringing this comedy about, there is a sense of critique of the Indian justice system, which so easily allows the rich to "win" (for lack of a better word) and the poor to unfortunately get "stomped on" rather than helped.

"Who says only superstars can draw crowd to the theatres? ‘Jolly LLB’ will prove the conventional notion wrong. Highly recommended.

I give Jolly LLB... 7.5/10 "7.5 out of 10"
Rating: Great story! Must watch! Highly recommended!
