Mere Dad Ki Maruti is a story, set in Chandigarh, revolving around two things, a wedding and a Suzuki Maruti Ertiga. The wedding is at the "Khullars" household of the daughter of the family, Tanvir (Benazir Shaikh). The father (Ram Kapoor) purchases a Suzuki Maruti Ertiga as a gift for his daughter, but a day before the wedding, his son Sameer (Saqib Saleem), an irresponsible college student, loses the car.
The film regulates between the wedding and the quest to find the missing car extremely well. Sameer, with the help of his friend Gattu (Prabal Panjabi) and new girl friend Jasleen (Rhea Chakraborty), tries to look for the car.
The film is directed extremely well, however, Rhea Chakraborty can not pull off this role, due to her lack of screen time. She was not able to portray to the audience the type of character she was meant to be and to be honest, kinda looked very "flat" as an actress. The two friends (played by Saqib and Prabal) starred together in Mujhse Fraaaandship Karoge, and carried that chemistry into this film as well. It's this relationship and the witty banter between the two, that keeps the audience interested. Ram Kapoor, as always, is awesome as the father. He never disappoints and even though his role was small, his acting made up for it all.
This is not a film for the people who watch a movie for the "big" names, because there are none, but if you just want to enjoy a movie, with your friends (maybe even family), it is a nice light-hearted comedy that keeps the audience engaged.
The story, though very obvious, has a certain hook that truthfully does not bore the audience. The songs are very well shot, but there is only one song that I would consider a "good" song and that is "Mein Senti Hoon" shot in a night club. The choreography for this song is very good and "popping locking shopping" of Saqib Saleem surprises the audience.
There are some funny dialogues, but this is more of a situational awkward comedy rather than a full on "wordy" one.
I give this film 5/10 "5 out of 10"
Rating: Average, Very watchable, Reasonably funny!
